Days of the week in Arabic. Many day names are based on numbers: 'al-ahad' (Sunday, from 'one'), 'al-ithnayn' (Monday, from 'two'). The Arabic week traditionally begins on Sunday.
Cultural note
Friday (al-jum'a) is the holy day in Islam and is the day of congregational prayer. In many Arab countries, the weekend is Friday-Saturday rather than Saturday-Sunday. The word 'jum'a' comes from the root meaning 'to gather.'
